Designing Audio Experiences on the Web – Initiation
Design and implementation of Web pages using the Web Audio API
Objectives
Upon completion of this training, participants will have appropriated the main theoretical and technical tools for the development of simple Web pages using the potential of dedicated programming languages and the Web Audio API.
Participants will have a basic understanding of the following elements:
- The main principles of network architecture and protocols
- The creation and use of a suitable development environment
- The fundamentals of the Web Audio API and music event scheduling
- The creation of graphical control interfaces

Developers, musicians, composers, teachers
Prérequis
Mastery of the basic functions of a Macintosh computer (use of a keyboard and mouse, create and manage files and folders, use menus, launch an application)
Training Period and Organization
18 hours of training. Monday-Wednesday, December 4-6, 2023. 10am-1pm/2:30pm-5:30pm

Monday
| Morning | Lecture - Introduction to the use of the web for musical and artistic creation. Understanding the main elements of a page: client/server architecture, network architecture and protocols, programming languages, etc Hands-on work - Setting up a development environment and creating a simple web page using the different languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) |
| Afternoon | Lecture - General principles of the Web Audio API Hands-on work - Creating an audio file playback engine and an amplitude modulation synthesis engine |
Tuesday
| Morning | Discussion - Feedback on the elements presented the day before Lecture - Encapsulation and creation of reusable components |
| Afternoon | Hands-on work – Creation of a feedback delay and a granular synthesis engine |
Wednesday
| Morning | Discussion - Feedback on the elements presented the day before Lecture - Scheduling of events in time: clocks and scheduling |
| Afternoon | Hands-on work – creation of a step sequencer Evaluation |
Educational Resources and Techniques
- Classroom equipped with computers iMac with all the necessary software installed, headphones, and MIDI keyboards
- Class Format: Training alternates explanations on theory and hands-on exercises
- Didactic Materials: Video-projected presentations and class materials online
Supervision
- Welcome the first day of training beginning at 9:45am
- Attendance controlled; signature of an attendance sheet required every morning and afternoon
- A certificate at the end of the program is given to each participant with the results of the exam
Assessment
- Assessment of knowledge in the form of a multiple choice
