Founded by Pierre Boulez, IRCAM, a non-profit making association with recognized public utility, is associated with the Centre Pompidou, under the aegis of the French Ministry of Culture. IRCAM and the CNRS are associated in the framework of the STMS Joint Research lab (Sciences et technologies de la musique et du son - UMR 9912) and were joined by Sorbonne University in 2010 and in the framework of the project team MuTant.

Cultural Outreach
Comité Colbert
The Comité Colbert co-opted IRCAM as an associate member. Founded in 1954, the Comité Colbert gathers French luxury houses and several cultural institutions. They work together to promote French art de vivre at international level.
Cité internationale des arts
Students participating in IRCAM's Cursus practical training in composition and computer music program are housed at the Cité internationale des arts.
