TS2 & Partiels

Edit

Introduction to the software programs TS2 (time stretch, transposition) and Partiels (sound analysis)
Edit

TS2 is a specialized time-stretch and transposition software based on the SuperVP™ audio engine. In TS2, the sound is represented as a time/frequency sonogram (FFT) that is modified in real-time according to the user's actions. TS2 integrates classic audio editor functions with the possibility of combining several sounds in the same document and of crossfading. The different sound transformations available (time stretch, transposition, remix functions, spectral clipping) can be controlled either by automation curves or directly in MIDI. A Master module allows to finalize the sound rendering thanks to the possible insertion of your favorite plugins (VST2, VST3 and AudioUnit).

Partiels is the new analysis software developed at IRCAM. It includes most of the analyses of AudioScupt 3 (FFT, fundamental frequency, attack detection, bpm estimation, etc.) presented in a new and more responsive interface. The resulting analyses can be exported in text or .sdif format for use in other software like Max or OpenMusic

Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to read a sonogram in TS2, optimize the analysis parameters for frequency representation and processing, and correctly set up and perform basic processing operations (transposition, time dilation, use of the Remix functions). Participants will be able to perform several analyses in Partiels, export them and use them in Max and OpenMusic.

Public

Composers, musicians, engineers, sound engineers, sound designers, video editors, post-production professionals, teachers...

Prerequisites

Good understanding of computer manipulation on MacOS, a software sequencer (ProTools, Logic Pro or Live) and a sound editor (Audacity).

Educational Resources and Techniques

Classroom equipped with computers with all the necessary software installed, headphones, and MIDI keyboards
Class Format: training alternates between presentations, explanations on theory, studying examples to analyze, and hands-on exercises
Didactic Materials: video-projected presentations and documents

Supervision and Assessment

Welcome the first day of training beginning at 9:45am
Attendance controlled; signature of an attendance sheet required every morning and afternoon
Assessment of acquired knowledge using a multiple-choice test (30 minutes) taken at the end of training
A certificate at the end of the program is given to each participant with the results of the exam

Training Period and Organization

12hours of training. Thursday- Friday, October 20-21, 2022. 10am-13pm/2:30pm-5:30pm

10 students maximum

This training program will be held at IRCAM on-site in accordance with local sanitary guidelines and measures in place at the current time. These guidelines and measures may change. In the event that IRCAM cannot physically welcome students, an adapted program will be held virtually. For further information, please contact: info-pedagogie (at) ircam.fr.
