Come and experience sound in all its forms at the heart of IRCAM, the factory of sonic dreams! An afternoon of fun and creative activities for children and their families.
How does the brain develop creativity and language? How do you make machines talk? How can we make a musical instrument from the objects around us? How do we bring a video game character to life? IRCAM, a center dedicated to musical creation, welcomes you for an afternoon of conferences and fun, participative workshops to discover and explore new sound technologies. It's an opportunity for the whole family to learn new things while having fun!

Tapioca Toys: Interactive Devices for Sensory Stimulation
Have you ever dipped your arms in a feather bath? Witnessed a concert of liquid instruments? Tapioca Toys create music, animated forms, and virtual landscapes using materials of all kinds laid out on a transparent surface; the movements of these objects are tracked. Born of the concept of “dirty” or “noisy” interfaces, these tangible interfaces take advantage of all the nuances of human physical gestures so that we can pilot digital machines in a completely organic way.
1001 Voix - Making your own “Bestio-robot”: A Look Inside the Black Box of Conversational Agents
Who is the Bestio-robot? What's his favorite ice cream flavor? What does his voice sound like? And above all, how does he talk? From good old-fashioned microphones to the latest in artificial intelligence technology, children will be invited to lend their voices and invent their own Bestio-robot through writing games that certainly won't involve notebooks or pens! This is an exploration of machines that talk and make us talk.
TACT (“Touch/Audition/Compose/Transmit”): An Instrumental and Visual Device
TACT draws on the musical tradition of graphic scores to offer all kinds of audiences a means of expressing themselves sonically and visually, without the need for learning. Akin to a small digital theater, TACT invites interaction with graphic and audio works created for this unique instrumental environment. An itinerant device, TACT offers visual and sound artists the opportunity to work in situ, in connection with a territory and its inhabitants, on the creation of these original audio and visual experiences.

Presentation of “Musique en jeu(x) - LE KIT”
Come and discover sound and music creation with “Musique en jeu(x) - LE KIT”, a box of collaborative games created by Odia Normandie; handle improbable sound objects, improvise vocal combinations, or have fun recording and manipulating sounds using electronic modules. There are no winners or losers in these games, which encourage curiosity, sound production, and interaction among players.
IRCAM is one of a number of organizations in the Paris region using this kit, along with Maison de la Musique Contemporaine, Radio-France, and Sacem.
Telling Stories with Sound and Movement (ages 4-6)
Enjoy a fun, interactive, group experience based on listening, imagination, and corporeal awareness! Thanks to the CoMo-education mobile application, children and parents can listen to and tell stories themselves, brought to life by various soundscapes generated directly by their movements!
The CoMo-education project is the result of a collaboration between the Interaction Sound Music Movement team at IRCAM-STMS, and the association Premiers cris.
Words and Sounds: an Introduction to Sound Design
Create suspense in a film, bring a video game character to life, imagine the sounds of a dishwasher or an electric car, guide visually impaired people along a route... In movies, video games, or everyday life, sound design is everywhere! Learn how to listen to, define, and qualify the sounds that surround us. Learn how to make them real with a music creation training application!
Digital Instrument-Making
Imagine making a musical instrument out of a banana, a bottle, cutlery, or other recycled materials... With digital instrument making, let your imagination run wild and improvise to create improbable instruments during a workshop combining prototyping, sound design, and programming.
