POETICA
Chaya Czernorwin's music leaves a lasting imprint on the memory of those who hear and see it on either musical or operatic stages, through the power and precision of the sound images it generates. Spanning a full evening, POETICA builds a "palace of memory" whose foundation is the relationship between soloist Steven Schick, the four percussionists, and the string trio, with electronics playing an active part in the process.
The palace's three floors are circumscribed by loudspeakers. On the first floor, the soloist is the initiator, building a massive suspended ensemble with the other protagonists until a catastrophe destroys everything. The second floor is devoted to movement and modulation, to distorted memories and sometimes consoling oblivion. The last floor unfolds throughout the room, but also seems to come from outside and far away. The space has become a mobile network whose configuration varies. We have entered the dream of a fluid reality, a new modality of communication and sound transmission.
