Partiels - Exploring, Analyzing and Understanding Sounds

Edit

Introduction to sound analysis software Partiels
Edit

Partiels is an audio analysis application and collection of plug-ins that lets you analyze one or more audio files using Vamp plug-ins, load data files, visualize, edit, organize and export results as images or text files that can be used in other applications such as Max, Pure Data, Open Music and more. In parallel with Partiels, a set of analyses based on audio engines developed by Ircam's Analyse-Synthèse team are ported to Ircam's Vamp plug-ins: SuperVP, IrcamBeat, IrcamDescriptor, PM2, FCN and VAX. These plug-ins enable FFT, LPC, transient, fundamental, formant, tempo and other analyses.

Objectives

Following this training, participants will learn to use the Partiels software (generate, edit, organize and export analyses). Through practice and concrete examples based on different analyses, we will study the content of sounds notably via the spectrogram, the pitch curve, attack transients, etc. Finally, we will export and use the results in other software to generate new sounds.

Public

Composers, musicians, sound engineers, sound designers, video editors, post-production professionals, teachers...

Prerequisites

  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Comfortable using the Zoom video platform.
  • Good understanding of computer manipulation on MacOS, Linux or Windows.
  • Basic knowledge of digital audio workstations.

Training Period and Organization
