Le pari de l’œuvre de Sophie Kovalevskaïa
In 2005, Jean-François Peyret staged the life and work of mathematician Sophie Kovalevskaïa (1850–1891), interweaving theoretical texts, biography, and technological imagination. This revealed the poetic force of her thinking. The first woman to hold a university chair in Europe, Kovalevskaïa fled Russia and fought her entire life for recognition in a scientific world that resisted her presence. She also sought to combine mathematical invention with literary imagination. Together with Anne Monfort and three young actors, Peyret revisits the archives of this fascinating work more than 20 years after its creation.

Serie Le Pari de l'œuvre
The act of creation is a wager: on memory, on the future, on how a gesture will be received once it slips beyond the artist’s control. In every field, a work raises the question of its own necessity and its place in the world. Why do certain works from the past still resonate so powerfully today? This new series of monthly encounters invites a guest to share their personal connection with a specific work.
