The fundamental principle of IRCAM is to encourage productive interaction among scientific research, technological developments, and contemporary music production. Since its establishment in 1977, this initiative has provided the foundation for the institute’s activities. One of the major issues is the importance of contributing to the renewal of musical expression through science and technology. Conversely, sp…

During the IRCAM Forum Workshops 2018
Edit

IRCAM Live is an evening of electronic music dedicated to musicians who play with the codes of our digital era. This program, originally initiated by the IRCAM Forum Workshops, is conceived in partnership with the Spectacles vivants du Centre Pompidou.

The young German composer Alexander Schubert is one of the most energetic and cutting edge of his generation. Like a video, CODEC ERROR organizes and lights the arrested movements of the soloists from the Ensemble intercontemporain. In this magnificent score of gesture and light, Schubert transfers the stereotypes of the digital world to the musicians’ bodies: complete control of the human by the machine.

The French artist Franck Vigroux is a figure of the electro noise, improve, and cut-up scenes. His creation is the result of a collaboration with the visual artist Antoine Schmitt. Like an illusion that touches the perception of how long time lasts or cuts it up, Chronostasis dialates the present to the extreme, endlessly fixing and diffracting it.

Soloists from the Ensemble intercontemporain :
Samuel Favre, Benoit Maurin, percussions
Nicolas Crosse, bass
Benoit Meudic, IRCAM computer music design

Alexander Schubert, CODEC ERROR

Franck Vigroux, music
Antoine Schmitt, generative video
Benoit Meudic, IRCAM computer music design

Franck Vigroux and Antoine Schmitt, Chronostasis, premiere 2018
