Stylianos Dimou

Stylianos Dimou (Greece, 1988) first studied composition at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki before going on to the Eastman School of Music from where he received his Master’s degree in composition in 2013. He is currently a doctoral student in musical composition at Columbia University in New York. Stylianos’ music has been presented at and won awards in international festivals, a large number of institutions, and composition competitions.

Seeking to maintain the balance between visceral inspiration and intuition, he relies on a structure imagined like liquid, like a sculpture, imagined like a corollary of the microscopic manipulation of dimensions of movement and timbre. Blurred sounds, harmonic fluidity, and movements are essential elements in the ideas he has developed in his latest works.
