Joy: exultation, vitality, ecstasy. Joy: the main character in Magnus Lindberg’s music. In this whirlwind from 1990, the Finnish composer weaves together the continual spectral process and the serial manipulation of parameters, states, and dynamics, symmetry and directionality. Not a single movement remains unfinished in a tangible perspective. Joy brings together the Ensemble intercontemporain and the young musicians from the  Ensemble ULYSSES, gaining rare experience during their tour of contemporary music foyers in Europe. The sophistication of young Stefano Gervasoni’s concerts, the “northern” territory of Florent Caron Darras’ electronic synthesis, or the introspection with resonators by Matthias Pintscher, each offer a unique contrast to the exuberance of Joy.
