The fundamental principle of IRCAM is to encourage productive interaction among scientific research, technological developments, and contemporary music production. Since its establishment in 1977, this initiative has provided the foundation for the institute’s activities. One of the major issues is the importance of contributing to the renewal of musical expression through science and technology. Conversely, sp…

Ircam Live conjugates engineering and creativity in an evening of electro music composed of artstic experiments and performances.

Pockets of Space by the video collective OpenEndedGroup and the composer Natasha Barrett immerses us in the heart of a complex network of interactions between our conscience, our computational systems, and our physical environment. Melding sound and 3D images, the work, inspired by the branching structure of a tree, it extends, opens, convulses, fractures, twists, and bends.

Saxophonist and reserache Raphaël Imbert and computer music designer Benjamin Lévy, residents in IRCAM’s Artistic Research program, have put the possibilities of musical improv and artificial intelligence of the OMAX program on stage. After several years of working together, the duo has used the Imbert’s research in the “Deep South” of the United States and the reflections of Benjamin Lévy on new technologies for the creation of A.I. Swing. This is a performance where artificial intelligence becomes a jazz musician, a blues musician, and where an acoustic musician is transformed into a “saxo-bot”!

Scanner explores the role of surveillance in our culture using telephone calls, sonic data, information in a film piece featuring a live performance. Using live and mixed radio signals, each performance depends on its localization and situation.
