Grand soir : cabinet de curiosités
A cabinet of curiosities is a room in which rare, new, and unique, objects are exhibited, a heterogeneous mixture of natural, artificial, and scientific objects.
In this cabinet of sound curiosities, the instrumenarium is often unusual, such as Gilbert Nouno’s Feedback for three triangles, or the glass harmonica that has provided its crystalline sounds from Mozart to Hristina Šušak. The sources of inspiration are disparate: the arabesques of honeysuckle in the garden are a model for Olga Neuwirth, the sound objects found all over the world for Die Stücke der Windrose by Kagel. And finally, Marc Monnet, who inherited his master, Kagel’s sense of theater and diversion, transforms the concerto for piano into a burlesque farce.
