Dialogue de l'ombre double
Three solists from the Ensemble intercontemporain perform a collection of Boulez's pieces for piano, clarinet and violin. These works – which include pieces with and without electronics – cover most of his creative career and take us on a journey into his unique musical universe, where the composition is constantly renewed but never loses any of its rigor and its sensuality. Amongst them, are Dialogue de l’ombre double, for clarinet, a key piece of the contemporary musical repertoire, and an emblematic work of mixed music. Taking its title from the play Soulier de satin by Claudel, Dialogue de l’ombre double is a piece almost as theatrical as it is musical ; it alternates clarinet soliloquies and spatialized electroacoustic sounds, where the musicians are plunged into darkness, and suddenly disappear only to reappear somewhere else, completely unexpected.
