What role did mathematics play in coding music?

This historical and playful conference intended for the general public, takes a look back at the major points in the relationships among musical theory, mathematical formalization, and computer calculations. The scientist—and pianist—Moreno Andreatta takes us on a journey through time; music pioneered everything! We go from the combinatory vision of the world in the 17th century and the first mechanical machines used to calculate music to the 19th century and the development of algorithmic composition and the current research on artificial creativity.

Moreno Andreatta and IRCAM conceived the “Music” timeline for the exhibition  “Coder le monde” at the   Centre Pompidou from June 15 – August 27, 2018.
