The colloquium, organized on the occasion of the three 100th anniversary of the publication of Jean-Philippe Rameau's Traité de l'harmonie and the 200th anniversary of the publication of Fourier's Traité de la chaleur, intends to examine, based on the question of harmony, the possibility, the conditions and the scope of these "natural principles", which are the basis of music as a science. It is structured in two sessions. The first one deals with Fourier's theory, in particular with its repercussions in musicology and its impact on the first music. The second session is devoted to a review of current knowledge on the theoretical foundations of the phenomenon of harmony.
