Theocharis Papatrechas

Theocharis Papatrechas (Greece, b. 1988) is a composer, sound artist, and educator, currently based in San Diego, CA. He holds a PhD in Music from the University of California San Diego, where he worked closely with Rand Steiger. His portfolio consists of acoustic, electroacoustic, acousmatic, sound art, and sound installation works that involve acoustic components, pre-recorded media, and generative and interactive processes. Theocharis’s works have been workshopped and performed by leading groups such as the Mivos Quartet, Ensemble intercontemporain, Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, Vertixe Sonora, Ensemble Multilatérale, and Ensemble Schallfeld, and have been presented in the contexts of IRCAM, CCRMA at Stanford, SEAMUS, New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival (NYCEMF), University of Montreal, Vienna Konzerthaus, and Shanghai Conservatory of Music. His scores are published by Babel Scores.

Since 2016, Theocharis, in collaboration with the Italian Ensemble Suono Giallo, has been running the ilSUONO Contemporary Music Week, a summer composition and electronic music academy that takes place annually in Città di Castello, Italy.
