Biography

Yue Chen Shuhe (China, b. 1995) is a New York-based composer, soprano, and interdisciplinary artist. Integrating instrumental composition, music theatre, and sound installation, she employs voice, gesture, and technology as core materials to explore the dramaturgy of body and space, focusing on perception, illness, and marginalized experiences. Trained in classical voice and stage performance at the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing, Yue is currently a DMA candidate in Composition at the Manhattan School of Music. Her music has been performed by the JACK Quartet, Ensemble PHACE, and the International Contemporary Ensemble, and presented at the Festival d’Avignon, Aranya Theater Festival, Mixtur Festival, and the Conservatoire Américain de Fontainebleau. Active in contemporary vocal and improvisational music, she has recently expanded her practice to include stage direction and AI-assisted visual environments. Since 2023, she has served as Artistic Director of Chaospace in New York, where she curates the DramaEtMusica Interdisciplinary Performance Series.
