Tianyu Zou
Chinese Composer
Biography
Tianyu Zou (China, b. 1996) is a composer, improviser, and multimedia artist whose work spans chamber, orchestral, electronic, and music theatre. His work often begins with materials or references seemingly out of place in the concert hall, from which he explores processes of defamiliarization across hybrid and shifting contexts. He creates intricate soundscapes for acoustic instruments while translating vernacular forms of online culture into instrumental language through both digital and analog media.
His recent works have been presented at the IRCAM ManiFeste Festival, the Lucerne Festival, Musikfest Bern, GMEM, EMS Stockholm, C-Lab Taiwan, and Rümlingen. He has received support from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation Composer Grant (2022) and the Nicati–de Luze Foundation (2022–2023).
