Part of the vast Urbana cycle, Deux Caprices for percussion are the last two of a series of six, written for a solo instrument and electronics, commissioned from the composer by Ircam in 2007–2008. The original idea behind this commission was to revisit the genre of the étude, combining compositional ingenuity, technological prowess, and instrumental virtuosity.
The Six Caprices, each lasting no more than six minutes, are the result of close collaboration between the composer, the music technology director, and the solo performers, centered on the interplay between real instruments and virtual instruments created with the Modalys synthesis software.A documentary written and directed by Maÿlis Dupont and Jérôme Polidor.
