INTIM
INteractive analysis/synthesis of musical TIMbre
For several years, the STMS laboratory has been developing high-precision sound analysis tools for musical purposes. The INTIM project introduces a groundbreaking real-time software environment that enables enhanced analysis and intuitive visualization of sound, exploiting subtle timbral characteristics that had previously remained unexplored, including their expressive fluctuations shaped by the performer and a new functionality for sound synthesis and timbre control.
The goal is to provide musicians (soloists, teachers, students) with a tool that can be used in their daily practice, offering real-time feedback that serves as biofeedback in their musical environment, along with the possibility of easily modifying the sound.
This framework also opens new perspectives for professionals in instrument making and sound: luthiers, tuners, and technicians will gain access to unprecedented precision in instrument adjustment; composers, sound designers, and sound engineers will be able to manipulate timbre, texture, and expressivity with remarkable refinement; and music teachers will have at their disposal a new pedagogical tool for the training of listening.
