Explore Max, Max for Live, spatialisation and advanced synthesis tools for musical and sound creation.
Max is a visual programming environment dedicated to interactive creation. It allows users to develop digital instruments, audio and MIDI effects, generative systems, immersive environments, and real-time artistic devices. Used by artists, musicians, sound designers, researchers, performers and creators, Max offers a unique freedom of design for building tailor-made projects.
With Max for Live, these capabilities are integrated directly into Ableton Live, opening new possibilities for live performance and music production. Programming in Max makes it possible to connect sound, image, data and sensors, and to create dynamic interactions between body, machine and environment.
Sound spatialisation is a key aspect of contemporary creation. It enables control over sound diffusion in space in order to design immersive experiences for concerts, installations or performances. With Max, it is possible to develop advanced spatialisation systems and explore notions of space, movement and sound perception in both artistic and technical contexts.
MuBu and CataRT environments further expand the creative possibilities of Max.
MuBu (Multi-Buffer) is an environment dedicated to real-time and offline multimodal processing in Max. It allows users to store, synchronise and analyse audio, gesture and multimedia data within a single workspace. MuBu integrates tools for sound descriptor analysis, motion tracking, interactive machine learning, and advanced synthesis techniques such as granular, concatenative and additive synthesis.
Based on concatenative synthesis principles, CataRT enables exploration of large sound corpora through their analytical features. Users can intuitively navigate sound databases to compose, improvise or design new sonic worlds.
These tools are used in music creation, digital arts, dance, interactive installations and live performance.
Student - Introduction to Max for Live training, in-person
" The Max for Live workshop opened my eyes to creative possibilities that I never knew existed. What I learned during the course provided me with a solid foundation to continue my progression on my own. I am very happy with my course. I would recommend it to anyone in the music business. "
Graphic designer and musician - Max introductory training, in-person
“An exceptional introduction to Max, led by an expert instructor with deep mastery of the Max environment and its many applications. All of this in a prestigious setting with fully equipped facilities. A highly recommended experience!”
Engineer - Max advanced training, in-person
“The ‘Max advanced’ course is very enriching. The level is truly advanced, with highly satisfying content covering both theory and practical use cases. One of the best training courses.”
Sound engineer, sound artist - Introduction to spatial sound training, in-person
“Many thanks for this very interesting course, particularly the study of panning and reverb algorithms (at the core of Spat), explored in depth with Max/MSP. It was also a rare opportunity to listen to works on a 24-loudspeaker system.”
