Classes are taught by instructors specialized in teaching music creation software developed at IRCAM: Simone Conforti, Grégoire Lorieux, Sébastien Naves, Claudia Jane Scroccaro (IRCAM teaching team), IRCAM researchers and engineer, as well as invited guest speakers.
Some details of the training programs may be modified as a result of changes in the software on which they are based.
In-person training courses
The training sessions take place at IRCAM from 10am to 1pm and from 2:30pm to 5:30pm in a classroom equipped with 10 Mac mini computers with all the necessary software installed for the training course, headphones, and MIDI keyboards.
Depending on the needs of each course, other spaces may be made available to the participants, notably studios with all the technical and sound equipment necessary for the course to run smoothly.
Online Training
One week before the start of the training, each participant will receive a reminder with all the necessary instructions for taking part in the remote training.
We ask that participants download the software necessary for the class prior to training and have a good internet connection in order to get the most out of their training program. We recommend using two screens for these programs. Please note that some software programs are not free and the cost must be covered by the participants themselves. The instructors teach using a Mac-based environment. Participants should therefore be comfortable working with macOS. Sessions are not recorded.
All training courses are conducted in English via Zoom videoconferencing, with sessions lasting 2 to 3 hours spread over several weeks. Times are given in Paris time (UTC+1 in winter, UTC+2 in summer). For those unfamiliar with Zoom, an introduction is available.
Exercises may be assigned between sessions and should be submitted to the instructor before the next session.
