Biography
Felix Römer (Germany, b. 1993) is a Berlin-based composer and pianist working in the fields of contemporary music, film music, and improvisation. He studied in the composition departments of the Royal College of Music London and the Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, where he graduated with a Master’s degree in Composition for Screen in 2022. He also attended the improvisation class at the Cnsmdp studying with Jean-François Zygel, Thierry Escaich, and others, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Piano from the Berlin University of the Arts, where he currently teaches. He has attended masterclasses with Francesca Verunelli, Helmut Lachenmann, Alfred Behrens, among others. He is the recipient of scholarships from the Institute for Artistic Research Potsdam, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, and the academy Hamburg Contemporary.
His main musical interests include the musicality of language, electroacoustic spectralism, and pipe organs. His works, often inspired by Hörspiele, explore the interplay of meaninglessness, lies and truths, as well as personal compulsive habits. He also has a particular fondness for birdsong.
