Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to use a graphical programming environment as part of their composition work. Familiar with the OpenMusic interface and its features, they will know how to create patches using algorithmic generation of musical sequences displayed in music editors. They will also have acquired the basics of musical formalisation and studied models used in 20th and 21st century music.
In 2025, the OpenMusic training course enabled 100% of participants to achieve the defined learning objectives. The overall satisfaction rate also reached 100%, reflecting the quality of the teaching support, the relevance of the course content, and its alignment with participants’ professional needs.
Adjunct Professor of Music
" IRCAM’s OpenMusic class provided a deep dive into computer-assisted composition. Learning to handle complex structures, formalizing compositional ideas, managing programming workflows, and exporting them directly to score-writing software has already improved my efficiency as a composer. There is so much potential in the software, and I hope IRCAM expands its curriculum to include even more specialized OpenMusic courses in the future. "
Graduate student, Composer
" The Fall 2025 OpenMusic course was exactly what I was looking for after an earlier introductory session to the software, which deepened my understanding of the programming language's possibilities and specific artistic implementations. Immediately after completing the class, I used OpenMusic for a composition project, which expanded my compositional methods and possibilities for generating material. I'm excited about working more with the software and recommend this course to others who are curious! "
Musician, composer and teacher
" An excellent training that allowed me to better understand the logic and creative potential of OpenMusic. The course fostered both technical autonomy and artistic reflection, making it a valuable tool for composition, research, and experimentation. "
