In this work, imagined like a study for different bowing techniques, Florence Baschet wanted that the motion of the violinist’s right hand control and set off a part of the electronics. In the original version, composed and performed in 2005, these playing modes were detected via a bow augmented with sensors. Reliable detection of different articulations that permitted the use of high-level control of the violinist’s right hand’s expert gestures was the result of development of a prototype of a bow and research on playing styles.
In 2018, we created a new version in which the detection of playing styles is carried out via descriptors taken from the instrument’s sound, no longer using the augmented bow prototype. During this presentation, the cellist Leo Marillier will demonstrate the results of this model of detection letting his instrumental gesture control the work’s electronics.
