Metropolis
The urban and futuristic visions of Fritz Lang have found a true musical echo in the work of Martin Matalon. For the restored version of the film Metropolis, the Argentinian composer Martin Matalon had composed in 1995 an original score, initially intended for sixteen instrumentalists and electronics. This exceptional film-concert presents the new orchestral version. Modeled on the rhythm of the filmic narrative, Matalon's work becomes, thanks to the spatialization effects made possible by electronics, a true musical double of Fritz Lang's visual poem. Echoes of jazz and non-European music, acoustic and refracted sounds merge to deeply renew the characterization of situations and characters, thus contributing to the rich history of the interpretation of Metropolis.
