Présences 2020
The 2020 edition of the Radio France is devoted to George Benjamin, composer, conductor, skilled ear and musician in the alchemy of timbres. This evening testifies to the artist’s musical affinities with Ligeti and to his friendship with Harrison Birtwistle. George Benjamin was also one of the first supporters of the Korean composer Unsuk Chin, herself a former student of Ligeti. The Fanfare chimérique she imagined at IRCAM, dedicated solely to wind instruments, was reworked in 2019. The electronics that disturb this unique instrumentarium create a play of mirrors and distorted similarities. Finally, the premiere of Sasha J. Blondeau’s latest work for piano and electronic completes the program.
