The IRCAM mechanical workshop
The mechanical workshop is a service shared among the IRCAM research teams. The workshop designs and produces modifications on musical instruments (augmented lutherie), prototypes for experiments in acoustics, or the development of gestural interfaces (made-to-measure systems, integration of sensors and actuators). Refurbished in 2018 to extend its production capabilities, the workshop now boasts traditional factory machines (milling and boring machines, drills), digital technologies (CAD and CAM systems for a digitally-controlled 5-axis milling machine), technologies for assembly (welding, gluing), and for the creation of silicon molds.
Productions: artificial mouth, artificial larynx, clarinet mouthpiece prototypes, made-to-measure pieces for Wave Field Synthesis, motorized door for the anechoic chamber, augmented instruments
