Spat: Basic Principles of Sound Spatialization and Control Tools
Intermediate Level
Prerequisite
Fundamental knowledge of Max programming (Basic tutorials 1-22, Data tutorials 1-5, MIDI tutorials 1-5, Max tutorials 1-18) or successful completion of Max: Musical Programming: From Simple Patches to Live Performance Patches.
Upon completion of this course participants will have acquired the foundations of perception of space and different techniques for spatialization. They will be able to construct their own basic spatialization modules in Max, and control them in real-time or off-line via different methods.
Description
This course is an introduction to spatialization. The principle concepts and functions of the IRCAM Spatializator are addressed:
- introduction to spatial listening and spatialization
- Spat's internal architecture
- introduction to Spat’s control features
- listening to different configurations such as 4 or 8 loudspeakers, binaural, 5.1
- simulations of concert halls and memorization of parameters
- elaboration and memorization of basic trajectories
- spatialization of several sound sources.
