Controlled radiation of sound sources

Current sound reproduction techniques offer high fidelity reproductions of power and timbre but pay very little attention to spatial information. The virtual source is a device made up of a network of loudspeakers attached to the sides of a Polyhedron (cube, dodecahedron etc.) allowing controlled figures to be constructed using appropriate filtering. As such, it's possible to control the source's radiation, to de-localize it and control its interaction with the room or space of diffusion.
Different prototypes have been developed and used in concerts (Duelle, by F. Nicolas and Five Imaginary Spaces, by O. Schneller) or sound installations (L. Dandrel's sound installation in the gardens of Mont Saint-Michel).
The three teams are currently working together on measuring and modeling instrumental sources.
