As a part of the fifth string quartet biennial that crosses Rihm's massive quartets, the Kronos Quartet will premiere a work by the young Iranian composer Alireza Farhang.

The famous "west coast" group, an essential player in American creation for over 30 years  (Adams, Cage, Crumb, Reich, Riley, Tenney, etc.), meets an artist impassioned by electronics and connoisseur of Persian music. How can musical elements from a non-European tradition be included in a work without creating work of exoticism? The quartet, made larger with the addition of electronics, will be the crucible for this work on pitch and micro-intervals.

This program ends with one of the most representative artists in the Kronos repertoire. In WTC 9/11, Steve Reich marks the destruction of the the Twin Towers, integrating voices commentating the event: telephone calls, archives, songs, a singing cellist, a cantor, psalms. According to the composer, WTC also means World to Come.
