Gesualdo / Momi
Carlo Gesualdo, prince, composer, and jealous of Venosa who died in 1613, has become an eccentric icon of a modernity that is inventive in every facet.
From Stravinsky to Werner Herzog, from Peter Maxwell-Davies to Marc-André Dalbavie, from Salvatore Sciarrino to the young Italian composer Marco Momi, his works - profane and sacred - have marked contemporary spirits as much as his tumultuous life - now the subject of an opera - has.
Extreme sophistication, bordering on mannerism, an ear in tune with ruptures, the revelation of an image, or of hidden affects: the sumptuous features of the Iconica series by Marco Momi, miniatures for ensemble and electronics, have found a special place of expression next to Gesualdo's Répons.
