Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra
Philippe Manoury, Jonathan Harvey, Arnold Schoenberg
Due to a sudden eye infection, Pierre Boulez will be unable to conduct the concert. It will now be conducted by Clement Power, who has supported Pierre Boulez over the past three weeks in his work with the Lucerne Festival Academy.
Inspired by Faulkner and Shakespeare, commissioned by the orchestras of Cleveland and Chirago, Philippe Manoury's Sound & Fury contrasts two worlds, two spatialized blocks of brass and string instruments throughout a non-sequential trajectory. Created for an orchestral ensemble and electronics, Speakings by Jonathan Harvey lives out the dream of a speaking orchestra. Written in 1909 in under 20 days, Schoenberg's monodrama is like a seismograph of the soul where anguish, a forest, waiting, and the loneliness of a woman - here the soprano Deborah Polaski - are projected.
