The Week of Sound

The 2013 edition of The Week of Sound at IRCAM is dedicated to advanced sound spatialization techniques.

Today, technologies make it possible to move sound sources, localize them, make them homogeneously audible for the entire audience, or surround the audience in a sonic immersion.

This day is an invitation to discover and test the latest technologies for sound spatialization.

Conferences and listening workshops on systems for spatialized sound reproduction (Ambisonics and WFS) will be offered. The audience is invited to discover the new multichannel system for sound spatialization that was recently installed in the Espace de projection. This system, unique in France, combines two state-of-the-art systems for the reproduction of sound fields, the WFS (synthesis of sound holograms) and Ambisonics (3D sonic immersion). Going beyond the simple sound illusions possible with more conventional systems, this system makes it possible to experiment with true 3D sound.
