Max4Live/Maxers: Develop Devices with Max

Intermediate Level

Prerequisite
Advanced knowledge of programming in Max (completion of Max and MSP tutorials or successful completion of Max: Musical Programming: From Simple Patches to Live Performance Patches) and basic knowledge of Live 8.

Upon completion of this program participants will be able to create high-level modules that exploit all of Live's possibilities.

Description

This course is intended for people who already have a good knowledge of Max, but are just beginning with Live. To begin, we will look at the basic concepts of Live. The specificities of Max in Live are then addressed. Participants will learn to complete the creation of a device (interface, aid, modulations, freeze device):

  • introduction to Live
  • differences between Max and Max4Live
  • synchronization of devices
  • construction of a polyphonic instrument
  • finalization of a device (user-interface improvements, documentation, distribution)
  • external control of Live (OpenSoundControl, joysticks, LiveAPI).
