Spatialisateur: Advanced Applications

Advanced Level

Prerequisite
Users must have experience with spatialization and are proficient in Max/MSP (basic tutorials 1 - 22, Data tutorials 1 - 5, MIDI tutorials 1 - 5, and MSP tutorials - 31 in Max 5 or successful completion of the Max/MSP course level 3) or have taken the course First Steps with Max/MSP or Spat (introduction).

Upon completion of this course, participants will have acquired the necessary knowledge to integrate spat modules in their Max/MSP patches (simulation of concert halls, trajectories, multiple sound sources, external controls). Participants will know how to formalize and carry out spatial writing for a musical or sound project and will have seen some of the specific problems created by different venues as well as solutions to solve them.

Description

A portion of this course takes place in the Espace de projection at IRCAM, a concert hall with adjustable panels that change the acoustic quality and reverberation time, and can be adapted for different situations. Several examples of musical staging and sound scenes will be demonstrated and explained. Participants will carry out a spatial writing project based on one of two types of sound materials offered: one with primarily instrumental sounds, the other featuring concrete electronic material. Participants will then test, listen, and compare their results on a multi-channel system installed in the Espace de projection.
