Max/MSP: Sound Synthesis

Intermediate Level

Prerequisite
Advanced knowledge of Max/MSP programming. Sucsessful completion of the First Steps with Max/MSP program or knowledge of the Max tutorials (Basic tutorials 1 – 22, Data tutorials 1 – 5, MIDI tutorials 1 – 5, and MSP tutorials 1 – 31).

Upon completion of the three Max/MSP programs participants will be able to program their own complex audio-processing patches, analyze and synthesize sound signals, chose the tools best adapted for their needs and include them in a program for real-time applications.

Description

This specialized training course introduces participants to techniques for sound synthesis available in Max (additive, wave table, subtractive, granular) focusing on the methods created at IRCAM and available via the IRCAM Forum (vocal synthesis, cross, concatenative, except those addressed during the Modalys courses).

Composers, musicians, sound designers, sound technicians and engineers, theater professionals

Didactic Material and Assessments
Hands-on work sessions take place on individual workstations (iMac, MIDI keyboard, headphones). Instructors use a workstation connected to a video projector and a quadraphonic sound system. Either paper or electronic teaching aids will be available for students.
