Max for Live for Live Users
Introductory Level
Prerequisite
Knowledge of the Live 8 program.
Upon completion of this course participants will have the skills necessary to modify and create simple modules to hear the possibilities of Live.
Description
This course is intended for participants with knowledge of Live, but have only a beginner's level in the Max for Live environment. The course addresses the basic principles of the Max environment via applications that can be used in Live.
Schedule
Monday & Tuesday
- introduction to programming in Max
- introduction to the user interface
- MIDI objects
- live.guilib control objects
- creation of a MIDI effects: transposition, delay
- synchronization with Live
- creation of a sequencer
Wednesday
- introduction to audio processing
- creation of processing peripheries: delay lines, transposition, etc.
Thursday
- creation of a monophonic synthesizer
- oscillators
- envelopes
- filters
Friday
- improvement of the modules
- external controls
- joystick
- OpenSoundControl (e.g. iPhone/iPad)
- Live API: control of the internal settings of Live (volume, effect parameters, etc.)
Saturday
- TP

Didactic Material and Assessments
Hands-on work sessions take place on individual workstations (iMac, MIDI keyboard, headphones). Instructors use a workstation connected to a video projector and a quadraphonic sound system. Either paper or electronic teaching aids will be available for students.
