IRCAM's multidisciplinary festival and academy, ManiFeste, the rendezvous for creation in Paris, places music in disciplines beyond the concert: live performances, theater, dance, digital arts. The arts of time meet visual and spatial arts. In 2016, ManiFeste will join, for the first time, a large-scale exhibit at the Centre Pompidou consecrated to Arte Povera. What is "poor" in art and innovation today? The conception of rare material, of new instrument-making techniques, the presence of re-enchanted nature in a work, can all be found in the heart of unique artistic adventures, like that of Salvatore Sciarrino in Europe of Harry Partch in the United States. .

ManiFeste brings together Beat Furrer, Philippe Leroux, Rebecca Saunders, Mauro Lanza, the circus artist Jérôme Thomas, and the percussionist Steven Schick. The Ensemble intercontemporain (ensemble associated with the academy) and the Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France offer young composers the possibility to test a sketch with different groups: a chamber music group, an ensemble, or an orchestra. Electronics are the focus of a new In Vivo workshop, imagined by circus artists who have created a scenography in close collaboration with the composers. Finally, the collective aspect is reinforced for young performers in Steven Schick's percussion workshop.

The composers and performers taking part in the academy will benefit from being in a major artistic and technological setting and the presence of a large public audience for final performances. The academy also offers the possibility for participants - be they active students or auditors - to take part in a series of associated events free of charge. In addition to the composition workshops and master classes, participants also receive:

  • Classes taught by guest composers, artists, and musicians
  • Conferences on research and development at IRCAM
  • Special access to the IRCAM multimedia library's reserves
  • Free entry to all the academy final concerts and master classes
  • Special ticket prices for the concerts during ManiFeste-2016
  • A discount on an IRCAM Forum Premium individual subscription price

It is the responsibility of each candidate to ensure s/he has understood the contents of the workshop or master class to which s/he is applying (description, instrumentation, fees, deadlines for score and material submissions).

Four major partners are taking part in the organization of the academy: the Ensemble intercontemporain , the CENTQUATRE-Paris, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and Les Spectacles vivants-Centre Pompidou. Major cultural and educational institutions support this fifth edition: the Council on International Education Exchange, the Center for Research in Electro-Acoustic Music and Audio (Korea).
