OpenMusic: Discover Computer-Assisted Composition
Introductory Level
Prerequisite
Knowledge of music theory, musical notation, and rhythm. Mastery of the Macintosh environment (OS X).
Upon completion of the two beginner courses (OpenMusic: Discover Computer-Assisted Composition and OpenMusic: From Analysis to Writing: Broaden your Knowledge of Musical Composition Tools) participants will have had a complete view of the possibilities available in OpenMusic. They will be able to use the main functions of OpenMusic (e.g. create and open a workspace, load a library), to create simple patches, to represent and play musical sequences with the tools available in OpenMusic (chord, chord-seq, voice, multi-seq, poly, and model), and to import and generate MIDI and text files from OpenMusic. Participants will be able to import and extract data from AudioSculpt, via SDIF folders.
Description
This introductory-level course introduces participants to the use of a graphical programming environment as a composer:
- discovery and use of the OpenMusic interface
- creation of patches, with the use of musical editors
- algorithmic generation of musical sequence.
