Year 1 - Practical Training in Computer Music

Germán Alonso (b. 1984, Madrid, Spain), studied composition at the conservatory in his hometown and then continued his studies with instructors such as Alberto Posadas, Mark André, and Hèctor Parra. Alonso also studied at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg and holds a master's degree in musicology from the Université Paris 8, supported by a scholarship from the Caixa Foundation.

Javier Elipe (b. 1980, Castellón, Spain), studied piano and composition in his hometown. He holds a master's degree in research (musicology) from Paris 8 and a bachelor's degree in composition from the Haute école de musique de Genève (HEM) in Geneva where he is currently completing a master's degree with Michael Jarrell and Luis Naón. Elipe has received the support of the Balaguer-Gonel Foundation and the Barbour Foundation.

Pablo Galaz (b. 1983, Santiago, Chile), received his diploma in composition at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Chile, studying under Aliocha Solovera and Jorge Pepi Alos. He is currently studying composition with Stefano Gervasoni at the Cnsmdp.

Núria Giménez Comas (b. 1980, Girona, Spain), studied piano and then composition in Barcelona with Christophe Havel and Mauricio Sotelo. She then continued her studies as a master student in mixed composition at the HEM de Genève with Michael Jarrell and Luis Naón. She has received a scholarship from the Swiss foundations Barbour and Nicati-de Luze.

Sampo Haapamäki (b. 1979, Hamina, Finland), received his diploma from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki in 2005 where he studied composition with Tapio Nevanlinna and Veli-Matti Puumala, before going on to study under Tristan Murail at Columbia University in New York where he defended his doctoral thesis in 2012. Winner of numerous awards, he was the Tapiola Sinfonietta guest composer for the 2011-2012 season.

Juan Camilo Hernández Sánchez (b. 1982, Santafe de Bogaota, Colombia), with origins in traditional music, jazz, and rock, Sánchez studied composition with Jean-Luc Hervé and Philippe Leroux. He holds a master's degree from the Cnsmdp where he studied under Stefano Gervasoni and Luis Naón. His work presents fragmented musical situations that become a complex and zany mosaic via the independent manipulation of the sound parameters.

Geof Holbrook (b. 1978, Montreal, Canada) is a composer, producer and instrumentalist pursuing doctoral studies at Columbia University. He has been commissioned by various performers and ensembles, including the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, Ensemble contemporain de Montreal, In Extensio, percussionist Fernando Rocha, pianists Brigitte Poulin, Julia den Boer, violist Pemi Paull. He is the artistic director of Plumes Ensemble.

Maija Hynninen (b. 1977, Helsinki, Finland), studied violin in Oslo, Norway and composition with Paavo Heininen at the Sibelius Academy in Finland. Her music is known for its ease and lightness. Her work focuses on instrumental research and making use of electronics throughout the compositional process.

Antonio Juan-Marcos (b. 1979, Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico) is a guitarist and studied at the Boston conservatory before going on the Cnsmdp where he studied under Stefano Gervasoni. He has also been advised by Salvatore Sciarrino, Philippe Leroux, and Allain Gaussin. His works have been performed by the Instant Donné, the Orchestre de Massy, the ensemble Multilatérale, the Orchestre national de Lorraine, and in festivals such Ars Musica and Acanthes.

Pierre Stordeur (b. 1980, Dijon, France) studied composition with Alain Féron. He holds a diploma from the Cnsmdp and a master's degree in musicology. Winner of several international competitions, artist in residence, he works on musical space-time and equal tempered non-octave intervals.

Sua Seo (b. 1977, Young-Guang, South Korea) is the winner of the Analysis and Orchestration award at the Cnsmdp (with A. Louvier and D. Cohen). Seo is currently enrolled in the Master's of Composition program at the HEM in Geneva with Michael Jarrell and Luis Naón. The Ensemble Stravinsky (Metz), the Festival de la SIMC (société internationale pour la musique contemporaine), and the festival Archipel (Geneva) have performed her works.

Blaise Ubaldini (b. 1979, Saint Cloud, France) studied clarinet at the CNR in Paris and then at the HEM in Lausanne. He holds a bachelor's degree in Hindi from the INALCO and a master's in composition from the HEM in Geneva (Michael Jarrell and Luis Naón). He is particularly interested in the voice and extra-European music, especially Eastern musics.

Gabriele Vanoni (b. 1980, Milan, Italy) is an Italian composer living in United States. He studied Piano and Composition at Milan Conservatory with M. De Carli and G. Giuliano, and is now pursuing a PhD at Harvard University under the guidance of Chaya Czernowin and Hans Tutschku. He has also been the artistic director of the Festival Suggestioni in Boston and holds a degree in Business for the Arts.

Davor Branimir Vincze (b. 1983, Zagreb, Croatia) opus consists of diverse acoustic and electro-acoustic pieces for chamber music and ensembles. Inspired by medicine, which he first studied, Vincze often uses algorithms in his creative process. During his education in Graz and Stuttgart, he studied composition with G. Kühr, C. Gadenstätter, J.C. Walter, and finally M. Stroppa. He received a scholarship from French government and the Fondation Frankopan making it possible for him to follow the Cursus 1 program.

Samuel Andreyev (Kincardine, Canada, 1981) studied composition with Allain Gaussin at Sevran and then with Frédéric Durieux at the Cnsmdp. He also studied the oboe with Didier Pateau. Andreyev composes works for Hanatsu-Miroir, l'Orchestre National de Lorraine, and Le Balcon. 

Juan Arroyo (Lima, Peru, 1981) studied composition at the conservatory of Peru, at the conservatory of Bordeaux, and then at the Cnsmdp under Stefano Gervasoni. Today, his aesthetic preoccupations have led him to explore the complex sounds originating from his mother tongue and to examine the musical scales from pre-Columbian instruments.

Maxime Chandelier (Dieppe, France, 1982) studied flute--through both the classical repertoire and improvisation—writing, analysis, and acoustics before working on orchestration and composition with Allain Gaussin. He continued his studies in composition at the Cnsmdp with Gérard Pesson and Frédéric Durieux. The Fonds Tarrazzi and the Meyer Foundation provide his support.

Laurent Durupt (Nancy, France, 1978) received his diploma from the Cnsmdp where he studied piano, chamber music, analysis, Renaissance counterpoint, improvisation, and composition.  Durupt has received scholarships from the Fondation de France and the Meyer Foundation. He has won numerous international piano competitions in addition to winning the TENSO Young Composer Award in 2011. Durupt currently works as a professor at the conservatory in the 14th district in Paris.

Elvira Garifzyanova (Kazan, Russia, 1976), grew up in a professional music family, and was a highly talented child.  She received two diplomas with honors at the Kazan State Conservatoire in piano and composition (under Alexander Rudenko), then taught piano at the University of Kazan. She has also studied in Germany with Gerhard Müller-Hornbach and in Switzerland with Isabel Mundry. She has been a laureate of different international composition competitions and scholarships and is published by the SME/EMS-Suiss Musicedition.

Heera Kim (Seoul, South Korea, 1976) studied composition with York Höller, Hans Ulrich Humpert, and Wolfgang Rihm. She won several composition prizes and scholarships for artist-in-residence programs. Her works have been performed by a.o. Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble for new music Zurich, Neuköllner Oper Berlin, and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.

Adam Maor (Haifa, Israel, 1983) studied guitar at his hometown conservatory in addition to composition under Eitan Steinberg. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in composition from the Geneva conservatory where he is currently working on a Master’s degree, studying under Michael Jarrell and Louis Naon. Maor has received a scholarship from the patiño foundation.

Keita Matsumiya (Kyoto, Japan, 1980) has a Bachelor’s degree in musicology and Master’s degree in multimedia art. He is currently studying composition at the Cnsmdp with Feédéric Durieux and Gérard Pesson. Matsumiya won the Takefu Composition Award in 2010 and is supported by the Fondation musicale de Rohm and the Meyer Foundation.

Vittorio Montalti (Rome, Italy, 1984) studied piano in Rome and composition in Milan with Alessandro Solbiati and in Paris with Frédéric Durieux. He is currently studying in Rome under Ivan Fedele. Suvini Zerboni editions in Milan publish Montalti’s music. He won the Silver Lion award at the Venice Biennale in 2010 and the DE.MO./Movin’up project provides the support necessary for him to follow the Cursus 1 program.

Diana Soh (Singapore, 1984) studied composition at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory from 2004 to 2007. Her work centers on an exploration of the interaction among performers. In addition to the Cursus 1 program, Soh is preparing a PhD in composition at the University of Buffalo with David Felder. Her works have been performed at Royaumont, Acanthes, at the Donaueschingen festival, June in Buffalo, and at the Tête-à-tête festival.

Marcin Stańczyk (Leczyca, Poland, 1977) holds diplomas in law from the University of Lodz and in composition under the aegis of Zygmunt Krauze and Ivan Fedele. Renowned artists and ensembles have performed Stańczyk’s works in Europe, the United States, and Asia.

Lisa Streich (Sweden, Nora Råda, 1985) studied music with, among others, William Brunson and Adriana Hölszky. She is now following the Master’s program at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne where she studies composition with Johannes Schöllhorn and organ with Margareta Hürholz.  She has scholarships from Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and Cité des Arts, Paris / Kungliga Musikaliska Akademin, Stockholm.

Chris Swithinbank (b. Netherlands, 1988, resident United Kingdom) spent his childhood in Luxembourg before leaving to study music at the University of Manchester in England. His works have been performed throughout Europe and he has received commissions for the Sound and Music Foundation, the PRS for Music Foundation, and BBC Radio 3. He has received a scholarship from the French government’s Entente Cordiale program enabling him to follow the Cursus 1 program at IRCAM.

Ying Wang (China, Shangai, 1976) studied at the conservatories of Shanghai and Cologne, completing a Master’s degree in contemporary music at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. She has been composer in residence at ZKM Karlsruhe.  She received several international prizes, scholarships, and commissions, notably from the International Ensemble Modern Academy,   Herrenhaus Edekoben, and Villa Musica.

Giovanni Bertelli (Italy, Verona, 1980) received awards for piano and composition, as well as a master’s degree in philosophy, in his hometown. He continued his education and the CNSMD de Paris, studying under Stefano Gervasoni. His music has been performed in several countries by ensembles such as Alea III, Ascolta!, Divertimento, Linea, and  Neuvocalsolisten.

Pasquale Corrado (Italy, Melfi, 1979), holds diplomas in piano, voice, chorus direction, composition, and conducting under the aegis of Ivan Fedele and Alessandro Solbiati. The Ensemble Musagète, Divertimento, and the Ereprijis orchestra have performed Corrado’s works in several European music festivals.

Aurélien Dumont (France, Marcq-en-Baroeul, 1980) is currently studying at the CNSMDP with Gérard Pesson and holds a master’s degree in arts aesthetics and practice. Dumont won the Innovatoires 2010-2011 contest and creates works primarily for the Quatuor Diotima, the gropus Linéa, Multilatérale, Musiques Nouvelles, the Orchestre National de Lorraine, and the Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse.

Daniel Figols-Cuevas (Spain, Barcelona, 1980) studied cello, physics at the University of Barcelona, and composition at ESMuC with L. Naon.  He is currently studying under Stefano Gervasoni at the CNSMD de Paris. His works have been performed by the Neue Vocalsolisten, the Orchestre de Lorraine, and the NEM. He has received the support of  La Caixa, the Fonds de Tarrazzi, the Legs Jean Brizard, and the Meyer Foundation.

Zeynep Gedizlioglu (Izmir, Turkey, 1977) studied composition with Cengiz Tanc in Istanbul, Ivan Fedele in Strasbourg, and Wolfgang Rihm in Karlsruhe. She has been invited to festivals such as Musica in Strasbourg and ISCM World Music Days  and works with the Quatuor Arditti, the Ensemble Recherche and the Ensemble Accroche Note.

Rune Glerup (Aalborg, Denmark, 1981) studied composition and electro-acoustics at the Royal Conservatory in Copenhagen. He has worked with ensembles such as The London Sinfonietta, Alternance, TM+, Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen, and Contemporánea. His music has been performed during several festivals in Europe. 

Clara Iannotta (Italy, Rome, 1983) studied composition at the Milan conservatory with A. Solbiati. In parallel to her studies at IRCAM, she is following a Master’s program in composition at the CNSMDP (under Frédéric Durieux). Winner of several competitions and international festivals, her works have been commissioned by the French Ministry of Culture, the ICP, and Résonance Contemporaine.

Tomás Koljatic (Santiago, Chili, 1981) holds Bachelor’s degrees in both composition and mathmatics from universities in Chili. In 2007, he began studying at the CNSMDP with Frédéric Durieux.

Wataru Miyakawa (Japan, b. Paris, 1975,) studied composition at the CRR in Marseille and at the CNSMD de Lyon. With scholarships from the French government and the Nadia and Lili Boulanger Foundation, he is currently completing his PhD in musicology from the Université de Provence.

Simone Movio (Latisana, Italy, 1978) is both a composer and a guitarist. Movio’s meeting with Beat Furrer had a profound impact on his artistic career. His works have been performed by renowned artists and ensembles.

Octavi Rumbau Masgrau (Barcelona, Spain, 1980) is currently studying with Frédéric Durieux at the CNSMDP after studying at the Barcelona conservatory and the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. Winner of the Frederic Mompou and Dolors Calvet I Prat awards, he has received commissions from Bcn216 and Grup XXI as well as from several soloists. His works have been performed in several festivals.

Hyang-Sook Song (Seoul, South Korea, 1978) holds a diploma from the Seoul National University. She is studied composition in France with Allain Gaussin and holds a Master’s degree in composition from the CNSM de Lyon (instrumental and vocal options). Her works have been performed by the Ensemble Aleph (5th Forum International des jeunes compositeurs) and by the  Chœur Britten during the Manca festival  in 2009 in Nice.

Rodrigo Tascon (Mexico City, Mexico, 1980) holds a Master’s degree in composition from the conservatory of Amsterdam. In 2006, he took courses at STEIM in live electronic programming and at in OpenMusic IRCAM. In 2008,  he was a resident composer at the György Ligeti Academy and took masterclasses with Salvatore Sciarrino, Brian Ferneyhough, Marco Stroppa, and Tristan Murail.

Vincent Trollet (Pau, France, 1978) studied piano and writing before addressing composition. In 2010, he received his Bachelor’s degree in composition from the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva. During his academic career, he has also studied other disciplines: musical acoustics, instrumental and electronic orchestration, Gregorian chants,  medieval polyphony, and traditional musics.

Minjung Woo (Seoul, South Korea, 1976) holds a diploma in composition from the Univeristy of Hanyang in Seoul and from the CNSMDP where she studied under Marco Stroppa and Gérard Pesson. She has received a scholarship from the Meyer Foundation.
