i-Maestro
Interactive Multimedia Environment for Technology Enhanced Music Education and Creative Collaborative Composition and Performance
Work Description/Objectives
The aim of the i-Maestro project is to develop new methods for music training based on recent innovations resulting from the development of computer technologies. This concerns both music theory training and instrument instruction. The project aims to maximise the potential of recent innovations in the fields of score following, gestural sensing, and collaborative-work tools in an educational setting. The results will be validated through a combination of tools and methods:
- tools and methods for educational music-software production,
- interactive tools for musical and instrumental training,
- pedagogical models for musical and instrumental training.
The project includes demonstration and validation activities, which will be conducted in major European institutions such as l'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Rome), the Albeniz Foundation (Madrid) and IRCAM.
The final results of the project will be incorporated in various product and service offers that will be made available to the public and to educational
establishments, thanks in particular to the participation of Sibelius, a company specialised in the development of software tools for musical education.
IRCAM's principal roles in this project are:
- to develop methods and tools for automatic score following that will make automatic accompaniment available to the performer as well as the control of the music produced,
- to develop methods and tools for gestural sensing and its evaluation in an educational arena,
- to develop formal models and tools for musical annotation and description so that they may be used in an educational setting.
