Interactive Music Network
Introduction
Music Network is a european Network of Excellence financed by IST program in the scope of the 5th framework program of the European Commission and leaded by the University of Florence (DSI). It seeks to federate over a period of three years (starting september 2002) the scientific and industrial initiatives in the field of multimedia access to music through the organization of meetings, conferences, training and through an active participation to the standardization efforts, in particular MPEG-4, MPEG7 and MPEG21.
Work Description/Objectives
The project includes 7 wording groups on:
- Coding and music representation managed by the University of Florence (DSI),
- Library cataloging (Mark, Z3950, DublinCore,) managed by the Austrian Music Information Center MICA,
- Multimedia standards for music (MPEG21, XML, SMIL, anlysis tools, authoring tools) managed by Ircam,
- Music distribution managed by the italian firm Rigel,
- Music protection managed by the Fraunhofer Institute,
- Encoding for visualy impaired people managed by FNB Amsterdam
- Score encoding and OCR managed by University of Leeds.
For Ircam, the goal is to contribute to the evolution of standards by developing mixed multimedia musical applications, whilst also managing the copyright problems.
