Web Delivering of Music Scores
Introduction
WEDELMUSIC is an European IST project coordinated by University of Florence (Computer Dept) for distribution and access to music scores in digital format. In this project IRCAM is in charge of developing the music analysis interfaces and the local distribution system installed in libraries, retail places or music shops. IRCAM is also in charge of user groups involved in the specification, the development and the validation phase. Music publishers and music consumers (theatres, orchestras, music schools, libraries, musicians) are strongly interested in acquiring interactive music ; that is, music that can be manipulated, arranged, transposed, modified, reformatted, etc. in both symbolic and audio formats. This is a real need for preparing performances, studying music, analysing music, learning instruments, etc., and an absolute need for blind people who cannot use traditional media. This is presently not possible since music is only distributed in music sheets or audio files.
WEDELMUSIC is an innovative idea for allowing the distribution of interactive music via Internet. This will be possible thanks to the definition and implementation of a unified model for distributing music in its several forms (audio, symbolic and image), a reliable mechanism for protecting music along the network distribution and a copyright secure transaction model for distributing interactive music.
Work Description/Objectives
- To make possible the distribution of interactive music via Internet preserving the owner rights and integrating in a unified model audio, symbolic and image formats.
- To define and validate reliable mechanisms for protecting digital music objects ; this will protect the original music version (image, symbolic, audio) and allow modifications and processing. through protected additional command lists.
- To implement a transaction model for distributing music, taking into account the different needs of music consumers to trial the model with tools for distributing and providing music to both visually impaired (spoken music, Braille music) and sighted people in a unified manner.
- To place the basis for exploiting new functionalities, opening a market for several new products.
- To disseminate and promote the benefits of the new model and solutions.
