Carrouso
Creating, Assessing and Rendering in Real Time of High Quality Audio-Visual Environments in MPEG-4 Context
Objectives
The CARROUSO Project is dedicated to the transmission of a sound scene, real or virtual, which preserves its perceptually relevant natural, temporal and spatial properties and enables full interactive control. To achieve these objectives, new techniques in sounds modeling, recording and rendering have been developed, introduced and tested in demos.
To go beyond the limits of current multi-channel audio diffusion systems (notably in terms of the homogeneity of the listening zone), the system is grounded in the concept of holophony or Wave Field Synthesis (WFS), making a wide range of new audiovisual applications possible. The transmission phase is carried out in a MPEG-4 context with sound objects made up of different sound fluxes (linked to the recorded sources) and description parameters from the sound scene: position, orientation, source radiation and physical description or perception of acoustic quality.
