Respoken
Transformation of Voices for animated Films and Voice Dubbing
The Respoken Project is focused on the creation of software tools for voice transformations.
One part of the project concentrates on the transformation of the voice of a speaker to create a different voice. For example, a woman's voice is transformed into a man's. This transformation can already be used for animated films and dubbing actors.
For applications for video games, animation, and film, it is necessary to modify the way certain segments of sentences are said in order to obtain the effect that is not associated with a 'normal' voice, like that of an actor.
IRCAM has focused its efforts on the modification of expressivity, meaning the emotion, affect, and intentions communicated by a sentence. Using a specific sentence (an audio flow) the software can modify the expression of a phonetically equivalent Mays sentence (e.g. fear, anger, joy, disgust, surprise). In addition, the user, a sound engineer, can choose the degree of expressivity to apply to a voice, from very low to very high.
