Windset
Introduction
The purpose of Windset is to develop a collection of physically modeled wind/brass instruments available as commercial audiosequencer plug-ins. The targeted instruments are the trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet and saxophone.
Work Description/Objectives
The timbre variations of these instruments can only really be reproduced via physical models since they depend on the way they are played (notably concerning breathing) and on the different forms of articulation between notes. However, their operation as non-linear dynamic systems is quite complex because it requires the simultaneous control of numerous parameters.
As well as the production of professional quality physical models, one of the project’s main objectives is thus to design high-level control and playing methods, which could easily be added to any piece of sound production software without compromising the wealth of sonic possibilities, which make these models so interesting.
