Choir with Six Voices

Voices

The selected composer scan use either the whole vocal ensemble of six voices (1 soprano, 1 mezzo, 1 countertenor, 1 tenor, 1 baritone, 1 bass) or 3 to 5 of the six voices. Duos and solos are not allowed.

Please keep in mind the following ranges :
NB : C4 = middle C = 261 Hz.
Soprano : B just below middle C to B above treble clef (B3 to B5).
Mezzo: F below middle C to A above above treble clef (F3 to A5)
Countertenor: F below middle C to E  in treble clef (F3 to E5)
Tenor: C in bass clef  to Bb in treble clef (C3 to Bb4)
Baritone: A in bass clef  to G in treble clef (A2 to G4)
Bass: D below bass clef to Eb above middle C (D2 ot Eb4)

These ranges represent the total possible ambitus for each singer. However, it does not follow that all notes will be equally possible at every volume in every context. Extremes of range are often unstable and inflexible and must be handled with care. Composers may get in touch with EXAUDI's director, James Weeks, at any point to discuss their propositions and sketches.

The ensemble is usually conducted by James Weeks, but composers may opt for a non-conducted work. The work may not include instruments nor electronics.

Texts

Composers may use a text of their own making or a classic or contemporary text. In case of the latter, composers must make sure that the rights are properly negotiated so as to include its inclusion in a musical work.
