In Vivo Danse. Dance and Percussion, with or without Electronics
June 17-30, 2013
Christine Gérard. Mark Lorimer. Alban Richard. Clinton Stringer. Samuel Favre. Thierry de Mey
Four choreographers with different styles and aesthetics create working methods where music and dance react to one another, going back and forth between studio and research. How does one invent together the writing for movement, musical gesture and electronic composition? How does one articulate the presence of dancers and musicians on stage? These are some of the concerns that have brought together IRCAM, the Centre Pompidou, Micadanses, and Charleroi-Danses.
Each choreographer (Christine Gérard, Mark Lorimer, Alban Richard, Clinton Stringer) is associated with two selected composers. In the spirit of mutual cooperation, they will each create their own stage project (10 minutes maximum) with the technological support of IRCAM (in the case of a work involving electronics) with the participation of a percussionist.
Samuel Favre leads the percussionists of this workshop.
Following the initial meeting of composers and choreographers in Brussels (from 9 to 11 March 2013), the majority of the workshop will be held in Paris from June 17 to the 30, 2013 at the Centre Pompidou and in the Micadanses studios. The public presentation will be held at the Centre Pompidou at the end of the workshop.
In Vivo Video. Video and Electronics
June 17-30, 2013
Clorinde Durand. Daniel Browne. Éric Oriot. Andrea Cera
Write electronic music as a reflection of or as a counterpoint to a video created by a young video artist from the Fresnoy, experiment with the relationship between the form and the rhythm of a video during a workshop, sound mixing and the relationship between music and image: these are just a few of the propositions for this brand new workshop. The student composers have the possibility of meeting the video artists in residence at the Fresnoy (Clorinde Durand et Éric Oriot) who have created videos from electronic creations.
Length of the piece presented varies with the length of the original videos: 5' to 7'
Student composers will work on their sketches with Andrea Cera before the Academy via Internet or during face-to-face encounters if possible.
During the Academy, the works will be finalized and mixed before a public screening at the end of the workshop. In parallel, first-year students from the Fresnoy will present their videos based on works selected from the IRCAM repertoire.
